Austria's Euro history has been largely one of
underachievement. Highlights: the Udo Jurgens years in the mid 60s and
reasonable results in the early 90s, but too many bottom three finishes by
far and three nul-pointers. The enigmatic Alf Poier (above) pulled out a great result in 2003, but
subsequent disillusionment meant a withdrawal from the 2006 and
2008
events. The Austrian televote is dominated by their
immigrant population but they get no such benefits in return.
