Poland

Edyta Gorniak (1994)

Poland made one heck of a debut in 1994, as easily the most successful of the seven new "Eastern" countries that year, when they came a very strong second.  However they could not maintain this standard in the years that followed.

To be fair they have frequently sent a rock style song to Eurovision that hasn't pandered too much to standard Eurovision styles of ballads and poppiness, and you have to give them credit for that.  In 2007 they came with a whisker of qualifying for the final but were edged out by some others with  more neighbours and ex-pats.
